Moving from the big city of Chicago to one of the small towns of the Quad Cities (QC) was a tough change. Back in 2016, when my family moved to Rock Island. We started trying to set into small town life, we were exploring all that QC had to offer- from the museums, to the different schools, to the local businesses, to all the restaurants. So, it was not surprising when La-Ranch popped up on our places to try in the Quad Cities.
La Rancherita, a small business owned by locals, is a Mexican restaurant. They offer everything from tacos, to tortas, a traditional Mexican flatbread sandwich, to horchata, a Spanish and Latin American drink made from ground almonds, tiger nuts, or rice. That is just some of the food and drinks they offer there, as there is something for everyone. All the food at the restaurant ranges from $4 – $15, making it affordable for all families in the area to have a good meal. All meals also come with tortilla chips and pico.
This peaked my family’s interest back in 2016, but sadly, when we went, the experience was not great. The service was not the problem, it was great. Just the food. My dad had gotten one of the burritos ,and it came out shaped like a brick of meat inside a tortilla. He said it was not the most pleasant thing he had eaten. Since then, we have not gone back, until recently.
One of my boyfriend’s favorite places to eat is La-Ranch, and he thought I should give it another try, to which I agreed. The service was amazing. The second we sat down, a server came to our table with tortilla chips, pico, and menus. I decided to try the green enchiladas with beef. The food only took around 15 minutes, and the presentation of the green enchiladas enhanced the visual appeal, making it more appetizing and memorable. Besides just getting the enchiladas, the plate also came with lettuce, tomato, avocado, beans, and rice- only for $14, what a bargain!
Time for the taste test, they were to die for! A little on the spicy side, so I would not recommend, if you have a low spice tolerance. But otherwise, it was great!
I would recommend trying out La-Ranch for yourself, if you have not. Even though my family had a bad experience back in 2016, I am glad I gave it a second chance. Now, La-Ranch is one of my top restaurants to go to in the Quad Cities.
