The movie “A Father’s Miracle” is quite the emotional roller coaster. This movie brings a lot of heart breaking events, such as people losing loved ones, a father being separated from his daughter and mother after being wrongfully accused, and a lot of harsh treatment towards others. There are also a lot of moments where it will just warm your heart, like how sweet a man can be towards others, no matter how they treat him or being able to see a family reunite in the end.
This movie takes place in Mexico, where there is a father named Hector, who has an intellectual disability that makes it hard for him to understand situations to the level he’s supposed to . He doesn’t let his disability stop him from being a hard worker, being kind to others, and making sure he is a good father. That was one of my favorite aspects about watching this movie, being able to watch Hector never give up, no matter the circumstance, and sometimes that brought me to tears. His daughter Alma loves her dad with all her heart, and seeing their relationship throughout the movie was very heartwarming. She likes to run races for her school, and her dad is her biggest supporter. Hector noticed though that Alma needed new shoes, and wanted to get her these white sneakers that they saw in a shop. Sadly, another family bought the shoes before he could get them, but he asked kindly if he could buy the shoes off of them because his daughter had no other shoes. The other man rudely pushes Hector to the ground and calls him nothing before driving off. This is a part I found very sad because the look on Hector’s face was so devastating realizing he wasn’t going to be able to buy his daughter shoes for her big race.
Later on, the little girl who had the shoes wanted to give them to Hector for Alma because she didn’t need them, but unfortunately while she was taking off the shoes, she fell off a platform and passed away. Hector rushed over to help the little girl and ran to police to get help. That’s when he was wrongfully accused because the little girl’s father, who is also the captain of the military, thought that Hector had killed his daughter. It was really sad to see him get thrown into jail without even getting to say his side of it. At the beginning of his time in jail he gets beat and gets treated harshly by his other cellmates because they think he killed an innocent girl. It brought me to tears a little when seeing him get pushed around and the look on his face was even worse. But what I noticed too is that he still went around helping everyone he could and tried keeping a good attitude towards others no matter what. It was really exciting to see that everyone started to respect Hector and even started believing that he would never do such harsh accusations. Events took a turn though because the Captain insisted he get executed for his “crime”. The movie goes down another sad road when one of Hector’s cellmates decides to sacrifice himself in order to get Hector back home to his family.
I really like how the movie goes back and forth between showing how Hector adapts to life in jail and how Alma handles her dad being away back home with her grandma. Alma has such a good relationship with her father that it was hard to see the two apart and how upset it made her feel, and her grandmother ends up passing away while Hector is in jail. Although there were so many sad parts to this movie that were hard to watch, in the end Hector reunites with Alma and even gets Alma a brand new pair of sneakers bringing the movie to a good ending.
Overall, I think this movie was well put together and did a great job at showing the good and bad events. The acting was so convincing that it made me cry a few times. If you’re looking for a good and sad movie, then I highly recommend this one, but if you’re someone who struggles to handle heartbreaking stories I would be cautious when watching.
