The book’s title is “The Housemaid”, and it was recommended to me by a friend. I love thriller, mystery, and dark romance books, and it’s safe to say this was the perfect book for me! This book had a great mix of all of those categories. I had a great experience reading this book, and would definitely recommend this book to someone who has similar interest in book genres!
The Housemaid is a book about a girl named Mille. Mille is an ex- convict and had recently been disowned by her family, making her homeless. She desperately needs a job, and she needs one quickly. Mille goes to an interview with Mrs. Winchester for a stay-in house maid service. Mille notices a few disturbances on her tour of the Winchester mansion. One of those being a deadbolt lock, only on the outside of a door, coincidentally on the room where she would stay.
A week later, Mille ends up getting the job and asks Mrs. Winchester if she can start that afternoon. On Millie’s first day, she ends up meeting the rest of the Winchester family, and a mysterious landscaper, who she later finds out is called Enzo. Something feels seriously off about the Winchester household, and most importantly, the people inside of it. Mille finds out from other nannies and maids who work in the town about the horrendous Nina Winchester, “she’s psychotic” they say. Millie wants to know more, but she may have looked too deep into the family’s past and now she is dangerously in trouble.
Overall, I rate this book a solid 9.5 out of ten. This is because it had a lot of dark twists and plot changes, and I liked that because it keeps me wanting more. Personally, if a book is not super captivating, I will lose interest in it quickly. This book kept leaving off on cliff hangers, and had lots of mysterious turns making it something I couldn’t put down! I would 100% recommend this book to someone with similar taste in books! If you like less intense books, this may not be the book for you.
