Prom, A highly anticipated event each year for Juniors and Seniors. Prom is an event that is taken very seriously by these students. But the big question asked is: Is Prom worth all the hype it gets? After months preparing for one big night, Juniors and Seniors share their own unique experiences and opinions.
Seniors view prom as one final event of their high school life. With this, Seniors usually go all out. From spray tans, spending hundreds on a dress, to an expensive dinner- this day is not something to be taken lightly. Senior Ava Rohr says, “I spent almost $600 on my dress. I didn’t go to prom last year and wanted to splurge.” Rohr implies that Senior Prom was a big deal for her. But, as much as this day was anticipated, Rohr reflects on how her plans actually went, stating, “I wish I would’ve taken more pictures and really enjoyed every moment of the day. It went by so fast, and I wish I could go back and relive it.” Time often slips away on exciting days like this. Though Rohr’s day flew by, she advises not to miss out on it, saying, “I was on the fence about Prom for a while. But I decided to go, and it was so worth it. I think everyone should experience prom.” In the eyes of this senior, Prom is 100% worth it.
Moreover, the juniors’ prom year is their first year to experience this new beginning. This is a privileged dance with either someone they enjoy or just a bunch of friends. Many juniors had a bleak view on prom. Annika Bergheger, a junior, expressed how, “Not a lot of people were dancing, which made me feel stupid if I did,” and even expressed how a lot of songs were inappropriate. Bergheger explained how she didn’t really mind, but it was a surprise, as it was much different from Homecoming. In contrast, Dylan Frantz really enjoyed her prom night. Frantz explained happily that what made it so special was getting ready and going with her boyfriend. Frantz also said elatedly, “A highlight for me was when my boyfriend, my brother, and his girlfriend were all taking pictures, and we just kept being silly with our parents. It was a great time.” The full experience comes from what you make out of it.
So whether you’re a Junior or a Senior, Prom is a milestone event, filled with unforgettable moments. For juniors, it’s a night of excitement, anticipation, and a taste of what’s to come. Seniors, on the other hand, experience a mix of excitement, self reflection, and the realization that their high school journey is coming to an end. But no matter which stage you’re at, Prom is a celebration of friendships and the memories that will last a lifetime. So let loose, and cherish every moment of this magical night. Prom, a truly special experience for both juniors and seniors alike.
