SAT week, is a highly anticipated week for juniors every year. The stress of studying and preparing often takes a toll on students. However, seniors do not endure the same stress that juniors have. Seniors get the luxury of 3 days off, plus not having to take any tests. But with graduation only a few months away, Seniors use this time to forget about their stressful futures.
Junior Mia Hixson strives for success in her academics. Spending several hours studying daily, completing practice tests, and attending her classes, Hixson feels she is ready to take on the SAT, saying, “I feel mostly prepared for the test. I’ve taken online practice tests, which have helped me so much. Because of these, I’m much more aware of what to expect on the test.” Such preparation often is full of stress. Wanting a good score tends to rack up nerves even more. Hixson expresses, “I’m definitely feeling anxious about the test. I want a really good score, but it’s very hard to achieve, and that is what makes me the most nervous.” The stress of a good score along with the preparation that comes with it simply can’t be ignored by Hixson.
In contrast, Senior Ava Rohr has no stress when it comes to SAT testing. But, as her senior year comes to a close; the stress of the future is apparent. Rohr says, “The thought of college stresses me out. I haven’t even applied to where I want to go yet.” However, having three days off of school, there’s plenty of time to relax. Rohr uses this to her advantage, stating, “Having these days off is great. I have time to myself to honestly just do nothing, and not worry about school, besides the online learning assignments.” With time off, stress can be forgotten and relieved. Also, with no school, more time opens up. This time that would’ve been spent at a desk is turned into a more fun day for shopping. “I even bought a prom dress on one of my days off. I don’t think I would’ve had any other time to go, so I’m glad we get these days off,” Rohr exclaims. Whether it be a day in bed or a day of shopping, this time off is needed and appreciated.
Moreover, Hixson’s dedication to her academics and preparation for the SATs is commendable. It’s inspiring to see her putting in the effort to strive for success. On the other hand, Rohr’s perspective as a senior enjoying the luxury of time off is relatable. It’s understandable that while juniors face the stress of testing, seniors are dealing with the anticipated future and college decisions. Taking advantage of the time off to relax is crucial for maintaining a healthy balance of the pressures of academic life. It’s essential to find moments to enjoy some downtime, especially during such a pivotal time in one’s academic journey.
