Cool, Calm & Collected

Cool, Calm & Collected

Johnnie Teague, Writer

In this stressful time that we have all been going through as a whole, one of the main things that I like to do is just keep up with my friends because I’m not able to see them every day. Someone who I talk to on a day to day basis is Mariyam. Mariyam is a Junior at Rocky just like myself, and we’ve been friends since 7th grade.

Mariyam and I FaceTime and text every day, and she’s now became my number one best friend on snapchat. We’ve both been getting through this tough time together by just keeping each other company. From sending each other memes, helping one another file for unemployment, and filling each other in on any social media gossip that’s going around, I really appreciate Mariyam mainly because she’s one of the few people who actually text me.

Although this may seem like we’re going against the governor’s stay at home order, we do occasionally hang out, but in our own defense, we both just stay in the house, so we’re like 99.9% sure neither of us have the deadly virus. When we do see each other, it’s just to go to the few places that we can go to, such as Atomic, Mcdonald’s, and Chick Fil A. We’ve also been treating Walmart as the new mall since both of us are now on unemployment and reached 4 figures from just one lazy check.

Although this pandemic has stopped me from seeing my friends on a daily basis, having Mariyam to communicate with on a day to day basis is very much appreciated.

Personally, I feel like I’m not going to know how to interact with people when we go back to our normal lives, but if there’s one person who I know I will be just fine with, it’s her.
