When thinking about high school, it is assumed that senior year is the best year yet. That could definitely be true. “I’m really enjoying senior year so far, I think it will be my favorite year,” senior Teegan Conwell says. There are a lot of big opportunities to look forward to, and the year just started. Teegan has already participated in senior sunrise, decorating her car, getting a senior backpack, and many more to come. Teegan is excited to start studying in college soon, but what makes her sad is the idea of leaving her family, friends, and pets.
Senior year comes with a lot of perks, like a shortened schedule and seniority! Seniority, especially, comes in hand during football and basketball games, which she plans to show up and show out in all of the themes. Teegan has successfully avoided senioritis, so far, stating, “I’ve been making sure I’m on time and getting all of my work done as soon as possible.” Currently, her favorite part about senior year is making memories with her friends. “This may be the last time we are all together and live close, so it is definitely bittersweet hanging out with them all,” she explained. There will be many changes this year, but it will all be worth it.
To switch perspectives, freshmen view senior year differently than current seniors view it. Adelina (AJ) Brashier says, “I think senior year will look like everything has changed because the seniors that will graduate over time were the ones hyping us up to continue going through school and even sports.” AJ has some traditions that she is looking forward to like pep rallies and fun spirit weeks. So far, her favorite part of Rocky is the sports, which comes with her aspirations to participate in cheer, volleyball, softball, and track.
AJ’s goals for senior year as a freshman is to avoid senioritis. She wants to do well in school, and she will do that by getting good grades, staying motivated, and be successful, which she can achieve if she puts her mind to it. She has made friends through sports, and she hopes to continue making friends and doing the things she loves most at Rocky.
Teegan’s advice is, “It will be okay! High school does get hard, but the teachers and friends will help you get through it.” One of Teegans favorite classes is AP Biology with Dr. Kirgan, which makes high school more enjoyable. Since senior year is surprising, AJ doesn’t think it will be all that she expects and may come with ups and downs. So, her advice to her senior year self is, “I am doing an amazing job, and I have to keep going to achieve the dreams you have been wanting to happen.” Teegan and AJ could help each other when it comes to the expectations of senior year and how senior year really is.
