Ready to rock this school year, the Rocky Riveters and Rotary Interact Club have began gearing up to host their first official event of the school year! The clubs are planning to collaborate for a movie night, playing the movie “A League of Their Own,” to start the school year off with a fun event that shows off different aspects of both clubs.
Alaina Bonja is a liaison for the Rotary Club and the Rocky Riveters. Bonja has been the main help for making this event possible and has worked hard to make sure both clubs are equally showcased in a positive light. She states, “This event empowers women and dreamers alike, as it shows a movie which depicts how– with enough dedication– you can reach your goals. Empowerment is a fundamental value to Rocky Riveters. This movie also relates to Rotary’s dedication to encouraging and helping those in need.”
Advertising for this event is seen via posters around the school, announced in many teachers’ google classrooms, and in posts on social media. Gracelynn Veys, President of the Rocky Riveters states, “To advertise our showing of ‘A League of Their Own’ I made a poster design on Canva that has been advertised in numerous ways throughout the school. For future events, I would like to advertise the club on the school’s official website. I would also love the opportunity to speak about this club and advertise the events to freshman classes, who may not know much about the clubs and their importance here at Rock Island High School.”
Through preparation and advertising, the Rocky Riveters and the Rotary Interact Club are ready to get their first event of the school year started. Bonja affirms, “This is a good beginning of the school year event because everybody love free food, popcorn, and watching movies. Additionally, this movie is a classic. And, this movie is not exclusive; anybody can show up to this and people are more likely to invite their friends because it is a movie that people love and relate to. Additionally, this is a good back to school event because it highlights both the Rocky Riveters and the Rotary Interact Club.”
This event will take place on August 29th, 2025 in Mr. Benke’s room, Room 117.
