Christer New and Honey Moo take the leap into becoming future teachers by taking Rock Island High School’s Education Internship. To be a teacher, it takes patience and discipline to bond with students. Educating people isn’t the easiest job to do, but Crister and Honey are eager to gain insight and experience from Rocky’s Education Internship.
Christer New is a senior experiencing her passion in the education department by teaching 1st graders in Eugene Field. Christer had a change for her passion with her career, and wanted to be a chef, but changed her heart to become a teacher. She found out that her calling was to help kids, and help kids feel that they’re enough, and influence compassion for themselves. Christer states, “A part of me will heal if I’ve given kids the compassion they deserve than the coldness I’ve grown up with.” Christer hopes that kids will grow up with generosity for themselves, and that she’ll help them prove that they’re enough. Rocky’s Education Internship guided her to discipline herself by driving her patience with younger students. Christer learned that kids learn better visually and kinesthetically, and she even explains how the internships gave her tips on helping kids behave by giving them time to express themselves and their emotions. Her time and dedication to understand why students may act certain ways shows her strong passion to push through. Christer even explains that it’s hard to work with kids. She states, “They’re at the age where they are learning a lot of stuff, stuff goes through their head, and they’re trying to process it, but sometimes, it doesn’t come out right.” She indicates that kids take longer to process information, whether it could be academically, mentally and physically. Christer adds on, “So, you do need more patience with them, and definitely a positive vibe to uplift them, because they need reassurance that you’ve got their backs, and that it’s okay to make mistakes.” Christer proves that compassion does play a big role for teachers and students because compassion is a key factor for uplifting individuals. Christer New is in her last year in Rocky and is ready to rock away her passion to become a teacher.
Honey Moo is a senior ready to expand her curiosity into becoming a teacher. Honey learns to become a teacher to expand her knowledge through Rocky’s Education Internship. She teaches kids that are closer to her age, which still takes time for her to process what they need help with. Honey’s a social butterfly, who wants to get work done right, and she does this to communicate with students on what they need help with. Honey states, “The Education Internship taught me that it’s best to speak out before a student struggles more, which really guides students to the right path, and helps me understand what they’re struggling on.” Honey’s tips from the Education Internship helped her students to get their work done, but also taught her how other age groups process. Honey points out the mistakes a student is making before they continue, which helps them struggle less. Rocky’s Education Internship brought her to guide students to what’s right. She states, “The Education Internship taught me how to help students before they even realize they’re struggling, and explain things differently for them to understand.” Honey proves that understanding students’ mistakes and communicating in different ways to help them, expanded her knowledge on helping students and teaching them correctly. Honey communicates with her students to do their work the best way possible.
Both Christer New and Honey Moo take the opportunity to become teachers by taking Rocky’s Education Internship. The Education Internship takes students in grades 11-12 to learn how to teach. Students choose to teach what grade they want to work in and a school. Through the year, students involved in the Internship analyze and help kids, while they’re given advice from staff members. Both girls experience different ways to improve their knowledge in helping students by driving their passion through dedication.
