Junior year is widely considered the hardest year of high school. Millie Gidaszewski and Aubrey Doss are both juniors at Rock Island High School, and they are both hard working students, and active members of the Rocky community. They both are under a massive amount of pressure to perform at their best. They are both involved in different activities, yet also involved in the same types of groups. Both are in the NHS, both are in the top 10 at Rocky. One is in a sport currently, and the other is working, yet both are working toward the same aspiration, a college education and future career.
Millie Gidaszewski is an honors student, and constantly working on homework and projects. She is working a part time job, or about 15-20 hours a week. Gidaszewski is also a participant in clubs and does softball during the summer seasons. She is in the French Club and the Debate Club. The Debate Club alone is a demanding activity, as it is almost like taking another class. She has to go through her cases and create the arguments for her side. Now, it seems like it would be a difficult thing to keep everything organized and running smoothly, that is why Gidaszewski uses a calendar to make sure she doesn’t forget any activities.
Her plan for her junior year is to keep everything organized in order for success. She is currently not playing softball, as it’s not softball season, but her life will only get busier as the months go on. Gidaszewski says she likes French Club because it’s time she gets to spend with her friends. She says, ¨I often have a rough time keeping up with everything happening in my life.¨ This is completely understandable because she is taking so much on in an already hard year.
She says her favorite activity is the Debate Club, stating, ¨It is preparing me for my career in law.¨ Gidaszewski says that overall these activities take a few hours out of her day, and she says that in her free time, she hangs out with her friends and sleeps.
Similar to Gidaszewski, a Rocky student named Aubrey Doss is involved in just as many things. She is playing volleyball, soccer, is in the NHS, Top 10, and is currently looking for a job. Doss says she enjoys all these activities, and she mentions that, ¨My favorite activity is volleyball because I love the competitive atmosphere, and also because I’ve been playing the game for a long time.¨ She says that her amount of free time depends on if her sports are in season, when she isn’t doing one of her many activities, she likes to read and workout. One thing Doss focuses on is her grades and her volleyball, these things are both very important points in her life. Doss works very hard to stay at the top of her class, while also staying on the varsity volleyball and soccer teams. She has already started thinking about her ACTs this year, and she is preparing for college. Just like most juniors, she is thinking about which college she wants to attend and careers she might want to pursue.
Everyone knows how difficult the third year of high school is. It is arguably one of the hardest years of everyone’s high school career. Two teens are taking this year in stride, Millie Gidaszewski and Aubrey Doss are both doing outstanding work to create a fantastic future for themselves. Though this year is going to be hard for these girls, it will all be worth it when they finally get what they have been reaching for for years now. With the work these girls are putting in, it’s nearly impossible that they don’t succeed. All juniors are working tirelessly, and they always have. These two are simply going above the required energy and really pushing for a successful life and future.
