Last week on Saturday night, the Drama Club put on their show, ‘Shrek The Musical’ for the final time, closing the show to their audiences. After being able to witness their hard work pay off, the emotional rollercoaster of the spring musical finally comes to an end. Two of the students that helped in making this show possible were Aunah Jones and Emily O’Brien, who had similar, but different perspectives with the show, displaying a camaraderie that is shown throughout the whole cast.
Aunah Jones, who is backstage crew turned actor, offers her feelings about the show finally ending, stating, “I was sad, because it was my first time as an actor, rather than tech, but I was also glad to finish the show and be a part of it.” She goes on to discuss how her hard work got to pay off on show nights, leading to her enjoying the show more than she thought she would. “I enjoyed the show more than I thought I would. I had never seen or heard of Shrek The Musical before, so I was a little worried. But I think it turned out great.” Jones discusses how she was happy to be a part of the show, and be involved in it.
Similarly, Emily O’Brien is also an actor, but finds time to help backstage with designing and creating costumes, she goes on to explain her conflicting feelings on closing night, stating, “I was happy and sad about it, because it kind of set in that the show was finally ending.” She was happy to experience the show because “I think it was the best show we’ve ever done because I liked it a lot more than I thought I would because it helped me to make new friends.” O’Brien recounts the musical as being stressful, but a lot of fun at the same time.
All in all, Shrek the Musical has proved itself to be more of an enjoyable show to put on than anyone suspected. It took many hours of work from many helpful cast members, including the aforementioned Jones and O’Brien. This show was very successful and there is no doubt that the Rocky Theatre Department will continue to do what they do best, put on performances for their audiences to enjoy.
