Senior year is a crazy and fun filled year. It’s a senior’s last year of high school, and can be both exciting and nerve wracking, Senior Night is one of the biggest moments throughout this year, and is one of the many ‘lasts’ that Seniors experience and marks the beginning of the end of that sport.
Boys Basketball Cheer Senior, Kyra Allen, reflects on the hectic preparation for Senior Night, stating, “It went really good for the amount of time we had.” Boys Basketball Cheer Coach, Emily Witherspoon agrees, stating, “I think our routine went well. Seeing it come together and our pyramid hitting was awesome. The dances created by our cheerleaders were so creative and crowd effective.”
Preparing for Senior Night was quite the challenge. Witherspoon shares, “We had many things going on at the same time as planning our routine. We had cheer competitions on the weekends, 1-3 games a week, regular practices, and planning for a kids clinic. We also had lots of canceled practices due to bad weather. Everything ended up working out in the end.”
Even though the preparation kept everyone busy, Allen and Witherspoon agreed that was all worth in the end. With feelings of relief and accomplishment, Allen shared her favorite part, which was, “Seeing the other Senior’s smiles when we finished the routine, because we all realized that we were done.” Coach Witherspoon also shared, “Post-Senior Night, I feel accomplished. We had a lot going on this season with competitions, games, a kid’s cheer clinic, and prepping for a Senior Night performance. Knowing that everything came together and played out as planned was a great, successful feeling.”
While this season had challenges, the team showed much improvement. “We have accomplished great stunting skills this year, and seeing the confidence grow in our athletes was awesome to see!” Witherspoon added.
The cheer team was able to overcome many challenges, and put in the work for a great season. “Overall, after all the ups and downs, I feel that this season went very well for the cheer team. We were challenged in many different ways, but we always managed to figure it out. We had a very good group of cheerleaders, who were willing to put in a lot of work,” shared Allen.
Allen’s Senior season ended on a high note, full of improvement, with the grand finale of the Senior Night performance. This night not only added to the many memories made during the season, but also showcased all of the work and dedication put in throughout the season by the cheerleaders. Senior Night was a great end to the basketball cheer season.
