Getting a new schedule for a semester with a different class can be very scary. Having to get used to new people and different environments can be stressful at first. But getting a new teacher has always been a fright for students. Students in new classes have a lot going on in their mind. “I always overthink whenever I get a new class. It’s always, what if this happens? But a little more into the semester, I get more comfortable,” Eric Biswell says. “But whenever I befriend a teacher, it’s always super fun!” Biswell says. Creating new bonds with teachers are very important, especially if students want to stay safe and comfortable in their new environment.
Teachers aren’t all that scary all the time, though! “I always try to sit down and chat with the students. I try to get to know a little about them, and make them feel comfortable in class. I have found that being lighthearted and joking helps bridge the gap between teacher and student,” Mr. LaRoche states. Getting to know a teacher is the goal of starting a new good teacher-student relationship. Students always want to feel relaxed in the new environment. “Relax! Have fun in the world, not hate,” LaRoche says. Teachers always will try their best for their new students. They want to make sure that the students won’t be afraid. “I always try to make sure the students will have fun in my class. I don’t want them to be nervous, but I understand why they can be a little scared. But my main priority is to make them feel welcomed,” Laroche says.
Getting into the safe environment mindset is always an awesome way to start the semester fresh and new. Getting comfortable in the new class is the top priority for new students. “Students new to the teacher are usually just quiet until they get to know the teacher, so it’s normal to feel a little nervous at first, but I promise that it will get better throughout the semester,” LaRoche says. “I always make sure to befriend the teacher before anything. It’s better to get to know the teacher first and get more comfortable that way,” Biswell states. As a friendship happens between a teacher and a student, 99% of the time, the classroom feels welcoming and safe.
A new environment gets a student a little shaken up at first. “Being in a new environment can get you to feel overwhelmed, but once you get used to it, it’ll make you feel totally relaxed,” LaRoche said. Making a classroom feel warm and welcome is the best feeling a student needs. “I always try to make my students feel welcomed in my classroom. It’s my main priority to make them feel safe,” LaRoche states. Students can always talk to a teacher about how they are feeling. “After I finally realized that the teacher I had really enjoyed me being in the classroom, it was amazing!” Biswell says. All teachers want to do is make sure the students pay attention and feel like they are relaxed. “I always tell my students to have a good mindset for my classroom, once you get it you get it. Once I make them feel ok with what’s going on in the class, it’s a big goal that I always want to achieve first,” LaRoche says. As students get through the semester with a new teacher, it’s always goal to succeed through the class with an awesome new trusted adult.
