Though it is so easy to let negativity and isolation get to you in a time where the entire world is dealing with something bigger and scarier than we have seen in our lifetime, finding peace and happiness in the small things has been a lifesaver.
I’m not going to lie, most of my time is now taken up by Netflix and schoolwork, but when I’m not occupying my mind with either of those things, you’ll probably find me messing around on the guitar or writing/sketching. I had wanted to learn the guitar for years, and once the stay at home order was official, I made it my goal to obtain one and start my learning journey. Picking up a new instrument during quarantine has been really helpful in keeping my mind occupied when I’m bored because there’s always something new to learn. I’ve also been trying to go outside more because I’ve found that getting out of the house and getting some natural vitamin D really does help with my mood.
I do have to say that my days have changed pretty drastically. I’ve always lived life best having structure, and now that that’s been taken away, I’ve had to work really hard to keep a schedule. I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me when it comes to being organized. I was used to waking up at 6:50 am every morning, going to school for seven hours, then coming home, doing homework, eating, showering and going to bed early. Now, I tend to wake up around 10 am every morning and go to bed around 2-3 am and it’s thrown off my entire schedule. Yes, I still get things done, but getting motivation has been a little rough during this odd time.
We are all going through a weird and difficult time, but I believe that having a good support system and finding ways to keep your mind occupied truly makes all the difference.
